Statamic 6 has been officially released. No marketing stunt, no big stage, but a release that shows what the team stands for: craftsmanship, focus, and confidence in the long term. This is not a cosmetic update, but a fundamental recalibration of the CMS.

A conscious pause.

Statamic 6 took longer than planned to develop. Not because of scope creep or uncertainty, but because of a conscious decision to slow down. The bar was set high. This was not to be just another iteration, but a version that would prepare the platform technically and conceptually for the next five to ten years.

You can see that reflected in everything. The architecture has been modernised, technical debt has been cleared, and patterns that were hindering growth have been abandoned. More than a thousand pull requests later, there is now a foundation that provides stability and space.

Modern architecture, without interruption,

A lot has changed under the bonnet. The Control Panel now runs on Vue 3 and Inertia, making it feel like a single page application without sacrificing the advantages of Laravel. Navigation is faster, interactions feel more direct, and expansion is more consistent.

At the same time, existing projects and add-ons have clearly been taken into account. Not everything needs to be rewritten immediately. Old and new worlds can coexist without sites breaking down or teams getting stuck.

A Control Panel that can grow again.

The most visible change is the completely revamped Control Panel. Not only is it more attractive, but it is also better designed. Patterns that had reached their limits have been revised, such as tables, bulk actions and filters. This creates space to add functionality without making the whole thing more complex.

This also includes a new UI component library. Not a collection of separate styles, but a set of reusable, documented components that can be used internally and by add-on builders. Consistency thus becomes a feature of the platform, rather than something you have to enforce on a project-by-project basis.

Peace, choices and theming.

Statamic 6 clearly opts for less noise. The interface is clear, calm and deliberately not trend-driven. At the same time, the Control Panel is fully themeable. Colours, contrast and accents can be customised at site, role and user level. Teams can tailor the CMS to their preferences without losing the character of the system.

Dates, time zones, and predictability.

One of the most significant changes is in how dates are handled. Storage is in UTC, display is in the user's local time zone. That sounds simple, but it resolves a long list of confusion and edge cases. What you enter is what you mean. And what you see matches your context.

Security as standard.

Security is no longer an optional luxury in Statamic 6. Two-factor authentication, passkeys, and elevated sessions are part of the core. Not hidden behind enterprise constructs, but available for every project. This makes audits easier and lowers the threshold for taking security seriously.

What does this mean in practice?

Statamic 6 is a logical starting point for new projects. It is modern, stable, and well integrated with recent Laravel versions. For existing projects, upgrading is manageable, provided you carefully review custom code, add-ons, and JavaScript used.

More importantly, this is a version that exudes confidence. In the choices, in the technology and in the direction. No rush, no noise, just a clear line.

Statamic 6 is not a release to just scroll through. It is a repositioning of what a CMS can and should be: calm, well thought out and built to grow with you. This is not an end point, but a starting point. And one that sounds convincing.
