Code & cerveza: hackathon in full glory.

During this hackathon, Cube was all about code, ideas and a good dose of energy. Our developers, designers and product thinkers gathered to tackle five completely different tasks in teams. The goal? Experimenting, prototyping and discovering what is possible (and, of course, having a fun day together).

Joint kick-off.

We kicked off the day with a briefing that explained each assignment once again. Everyone got a clear idea of what needed to be done today, from translation tools to navigation apps. Then the teams went wild: exchanging ideas, dividing tasks, launching code and sketching designs.

Langbox - Translation management tool.

The first team plunged into managing translations. Translations lurk everywhere in projects: buttons, notifications, product descriptions... and often they are scattered everywhere, leaving errors and confusion lurking.

The team dove into the idea of one central place to keep track of everything and put it live. They set up a Proof of Concept, merged tools, tested multi-tenancy and implemented webhook management. For now, they support all standard languages, and although RTL is still in the planning stages, they have established a solid foundation.

Navigation app for agricultural vehicles.

Another team takes the wheel. Agricultural vehicles have special requirements for navigation: narrow roads, low overpasses and routes you cannot drive with a regular navigation app.

Today, the focus was on datasets and setting up an initial prototype. Routes could be calculated with restrictions on width, height and weight of vehicles. And yes, the tractor icons were a small masterpiece in themselves.

The team discovered that custom map overlays are actually quite fun to make, and plans for tractor branding, favourite locations and real-time updates of restrictions are already in place for next time.

Statamic optimalisations.

Team Statamic had their hands full with the CMS itself. Their mission: make everything that was already working well even better. They expanded link fields with component options, improved the multisite system and enabled standard spacing for consistent design.

The new asset manager package was an absolute highlight of the day. Statamic 6 is still on the horizon, and once it is officially out, these optimisations will be developed further.

LMS module for Filament.

Another team explored the possibilities of an LMS within Filament. The idea was to create a module in which training courses, exams and sections could be easily managed and tracked.

During the hackathon, the focus was on the data model and a first blueprint in Laravel + Filament. Building the full LMS was not yet in the cards, but the brainstorming sessions, sparring moments and experimenting with AI helped the team discover what a modular and flexible system could look like. Next step: actually setting up the training and exam structure.

Hackathon

Generic Postmark DMP Module.

The last team picked up a follow-up from the previous hackathon: providing insight into what happens to sent emails via Postmark, directly within the DMP. The goal remained the same: to easily show customers what is happening with their emails, from delivery to open and click statistics, including bounce analysis.

An alternative implementation was tested today. In the end, this idea turned out to be less effective than the original plan, but the team realised a Proof of Concept that fits fully into the Cube framework. The next steps are now clear: review the package, add missing requirements and get it ready for a working release.

And thus, the hackathon came to an end.

The day ended with presentations from all the teams, while the fair on the Ganzenmarkt came to life. While enjoying Spanish snacks and cervezas during the Friday afternoon drinks, we could not only admire each other's work, but also laugh and chat together. Prizes were even awarded to the Duolingo winners, a little preparation for our working trip to Spain that is still ahead.

It was a fun, educational day where new staff could experience the hackathon experience for the first time and where interdisciplinary collaboration was the focus. Everyone contributed and discovered what is possible when ideas and expertise come together. And above all, the day provided valuable bonding between colleagues: a perfect mix of work, creativity and fun.
