Web development is evolving rapidly. A site should be fast, clear, distinctive and, if possible, ahead of the rest. All in all, visiting your website should be a pleasant experience. Fortunately, creating a website is becoming increasingly sophisticated.

Where before you saw fixed templates, now there is much more flexibility. The use of dynamic components contributes to this. We like customisation. As administrators, our clients need to be able to completely customise their websites. Respond quickly to changes and organise pages and determine the order of content themselves. The possibilities are endless! But why is the website there? What is it actually used for? And for whom? That needs to be properly mapped out first. Everything starts with a jointly thought-out plan. We do this by means of a Sprint 0.

At first: gebruikersdoelen vaststellen.

Tijdens onze Sprint 0 gaan we samen met de opdrachtgever definiëren welke gebruikersdoelen de website moet behalen. Waarom wordt de website bezocht? Dit uit het oogpunt van de klant (gebruiker). Bijvoorbeeld, ‘Als bezoeker wil ik reviews van anderen kunnen lezen, zodat ik weet of ik tot aankoop over moet gaan’ of ‘Als bezoeker wil ik kunnen filteren in het aanbod, zodat ik snel het gewenste resultaat zie’. Vervolgens bedenken wij hoe wij deze doelen kunnen behalen met de inzet van functionaliteiten en de daarvoor geschikte dynamische componenten. Hiermee maken wij het concreet.

From green ambition to pure results.

For Pure Energie, Cube, as a digital partner, developed several digital products, such as the website, the customer portal and a mobile app where customers get insight into energy consumption and tips for saving. The wishes and goals were translated into a concept that clearly shows Pure Energie's unique proposition. Hugo Zoetman (Marketing Manager Pure Energie) speaking:

'The inventory phase created clear expectations for both parties. On the basis of the user stories, everything was first discussed in detail, so there were no surprises in practice. Sprint 0 gave us a very good idea of what the website should be able to do. All functionalities were covered.

Making goals concrete.

The Sprint 0 thus aims to deliver the desired Digital Design & Development services in a focused manner. Once we have clearly agreed with the client how the website will function and what it needs to meet, we get to work. This starts with determining how we can go about achieving the goals. With a website, this can be done well by deploying dynamic components with a specific purpose. Clients receive an executable project plan for the design sprint and the technical realisation that we follow. Our designers shape the overall picture for an optimal user experience and our developers build it in a smart way so that it is easy to manage.

Components as building blocks.

Components are a kind of building blocks. A component is a standalone piece of code that can be used more broadly. It can be reused on any page. In doing so, many variations are also possible visually. Not only the data, but also the order and size of different blocks within the component can be changed if that is more convenient from a design point of view. A component is not a single block cast in concrete, but really consists of flexible parts. Right, dynamic indeed. Think of component stacking as modular building.

Modular construction .

A dynamic component can be used in various places within the website. Think, for example, of reviews being displayed or a header component with different images. An admin page with dynamic components shows items from your collection in a list. When visitors click an item from this list, they are taken to a dynamic item page with more information about this item. For example, you can use an editor, table, or fact view to create a list.

Object-oriented programming.

An additional advantage is that the codebase does not become unnecessarily large. Dynamic components are a good example of how object-oriented programming is applied. Object-oriented programming is a form of software design that makes extensive use of -you guessed it- objects. Because the code is divided into objects, the reusability of the code is better and it is easier to maintain. Objects contain variables (data, properties of object) and functions (behaviour).

We develop the component once as an object, or separate code. Then we build it into the framework and retrieve it in the right places. For example, if you see the component in several places in the website, it only needs to be saved once. This keeps the codebase nice and clean and not overloaded. Incidentally, you can not only put the components in multiple places in your websites, but also on multiple websites. Win-win!

Pure Energie's energy counter shows several statistics at a glance, simply by clicking on which part you want to know more about.

The 'Shop The Look' component of Hartman displays various mood images, with corresponding information that can be unfolded by clicking on the bullet next to the product.

Scalability.

As mentioned, the possibilities are endless! The use of dynamic components ensures a lot of scalability, a way to scale up and grow (with) the site quickly. For Pure Energie, we developed several blocks that can be deployed in the CMS, the site can then be easily extended. For instance, there is an energy counter block, a formbuilder block and also a social media block. Thanks to the components, it is a piece of cake to modify parts of the website without having any knowledge of programming languages.
