From traditional craft to smart digitization: the next step for Direct Een Kozijn.

Direct Een Kozijn is a family-owned business with over thirty years of experience in the window frame industry. What began as a traditional installation company has grown into an online platform where customers such as contractors, freelancers and skilled DIYers, can customize and order custom-made PVC window frames. Cube built the digital foundation on which that platform runs: a fast website, a smart product configurator with real-time SVG renders, a personalized “My Account” section for regular customers, and a Data Management Platform that automates the order process from order placement to accounting.

From building it yourself to further development.

Direct Een Kozijn’s first digital platform was built in-house: a WordPress environment featuring an initial version of the product configurator. For a family-owned business that already possesses all the necessary expertise in-house, this was a logical first step. And it worked. But as the platform grew, its limitations became apparent. Not all window frame combinations could be created directly through the configurator. In some cases, the process still had to be handled via email or phone—exactly the steps you want to eliminate if you truly want to let customers work independently. Additionally, several back-end steps were still done manually: tracking orders, communicating with suppliers, and sending status updates to the end customer. Functional, but not scalable. By then, our ambitions had outgrown what we could build on our own. That was the moment to rebuild together: more professionally, faster, and with greater integration between systems.

The product configurator: step by step to the right window frame

Step 1: Exterior Dimensions.  The contractor enters the exterior dimensions. The width and height determine the canvas on which the window frame is assembled

Step 2: Dividing the frame into sections. Based on the dimensions, the frame is divided into sections using sills (the horizontal elements) and stiles (the vertical elements). The customer decides how many sections the frame will have and how to divide it.

Step 3: Select by opening. For each opening, the customer chooses what goes in it: a fixed window, a tilt-and-turn window, a fixed panel, or a front door or garden door. Any combination is possible.

Step 5: Finish. The customer chooses the color and finish of the window frame profile, both inside and outside.

See for yourself. Check out the configurator

Realtime SVG-render.

The product configurator guides the customer step by step through the process of designing a window frame. Every selection is immediately displayed visually via a real-time SVG render. Customers can see their selections appear on the screen in real time. Tooltips provide guidance for less intuitive choices, allowing even users without a technical background to configure settings on their own.

My environment: from configuration to order.

Regular customers log in via the website and are directed to their personal dashboard. Within this dashboard, they manage their jobs as projects, save configurations, and generate quotes for the end customer. As soon as the end customer approves, the customer converts the quote into a final order with a single click. What used to be handled via email and phone now happens in one seamless step on the platform. Customers complete the entire process independently, from customization to ordering. This results in less manual work, fewer errors, and greater control over the process for Direct Een Kozijn.

The Data Management Platform: from order to accounting.

Behind the product configurator and the "My Account" section runs a Data Management Platform that manages the entire order and delivery process. As soon as an order is received, an email is automatically sent to the supplier. The supplier responds with a delivery date, which is immediately processed in the platform. Based on this, the end customer automatically receives a status email. The same applies to the delivery confirmation. The processing continues all the way to the accounting software: orders are automatically transferred without any manual input in between. The Data Management Platform also functions as a full-fledged CMS for the platform’s administrative side. Uploading products, managing categories, creating discount codes, and setting employee roles: everything from a single environment, without separate systems running side by side.

A crystal-clear result.

Because the entire workflow—from order placement to accounting—is automated, the team at Direct Een Kozijn saves a significant amount of time. Processes are better integrated, leading to greater efficiency and clarity in daily operations. Customers are able to work more independently, communication via email and phone has largely been eliminated, and this has freed up time to further develop the platform rather than simply managing day-to-day operations.

Digitization is a team effort.

What this project demonstrates is that the best solutions emerge when industry knowledge and technical expertise complement each other. Direct Een Kozijn brought a keen understanding of what contractors need in practice. Cube provided the technology and the approach to translate that into a platform that functions as a unified whole. Industry knowledge and technology, combined into a single system. You can’t build that on your own.

Building is a team effort. Find out how.

Questions? No problem.

A configurator is software that allows customers or employees to assemble products, services, or contracts step by step, without specialist knowledge. You need a configurator when you offer many product variants, when the quotation process involves too much manual work, or when you want to provide customers with 24/7 self-service. At Cube, we build configurators for physical products as well as services and contracts.

The investment depends on complexity: how many product variants, what validation rules, which system integrations, and how many user roles are required. A straightforward configurator requires a lower investment; a complex project with ERP integration, real-time pricing, and multiple interfaces requires more. After an initial conversation, Cube always provides a transparent estimate so you know what to expect upfront.

Yes. At Cube, we connect configurators to common systems such as AFAS, Exact, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, and Salesforce via APIs. Integrations with PIM, CMS, and e-commerce platforms are also possible. Prices, stock levels, and product rules synchronise in real time, giving you a single integrated process: from configuration to quotation, order, and production, without double data entry.

Configurators have a wide range of applications: from product configuration in manufacturing to contract assembly for energy suppliers and quote generation in professional services. Cube has built configurators for energy contracts (Pure Energie), print solutions and lease contracts (Nou), lighting systems (Techmar), and corporate clothing (Scoober). Whether B2B or B2C: wherever there is something to choose, a configurator adds value.
