Since 2018, we have been working with Thermen Resorts to build a digital platform that maintains that tone. No big bang, no launch moment with confetti, but a landscape that has grown step by step. A Data Management Platform as the center. A booking configurator that guides the guest’s journey. A revamped website that gives breathing room. A mobile app for on the go. And all the flows in between: packages, gift cards, job openings. Everything contributes to the same promise: that the tranquility of a physical visit begins even before the guest walks through the door.
A visit to Thermen Resorts doesn’t start at the front desk. It starts at home on the couch, in the car, or during a lost moment at the office. Someone looks up a package, selects a time slot, or orders a gift certificate. That’s when the tone is set. Does it feel calm, or does it feel cluttered? Does it run smoothly, or does the visitor stumble upon a sold-out time slot that still seemed selectable?
When we first sat down with Thermen Resorts, the discussion centered on a single digital step. Now, we have a platform made up of building blocks that were developed independently but together form something greater than the sum of their parts. That’s no coincidence. It’s a collaboration where we only take the next step once the previous one has proven effective. The beauty of such a long-term relationship is that you move beyond project-based thinking. No complete rebuild with the hope that everything will suddenly fall into place. Instead: well-considered interventions that reinforce one another. First, extracting the logic from the websites and centralizing it in a DMP. Then, once that foundation was in place, we visually revamped the websites without having to overhaul the entire architecture. And now? Together, we’re exploring where AI applications can add value within the existing framework.
For a guest, a wellness visit feels like a seamless experience. For the organization behind it, however, it is anything but seamless. Every Thermen Resorts location has a local server room housing the internal reservation system that staff use on a daily basis. In addition, cloud systems run for data, communication, and the My Thermen environment. Each is valuable in its own right, but without interconnectivity, fragmentation occurs: the same guest in multiple systems, the same reservation with multiple statuses, and an online environment that constantly has to guess which version is correct.
For a long time, guests had no way to independently plan a complete visit online. The booking process was fragmented: visitors stumbled from page to page, with no single, seamless flow to guide them through all the options. As a result, the digital experience lagged behind the physical appeal of the resorts. And the CMS exerted too much control over the surrounding data, meaning that every expansion required customization.
This is the part of the story we’re most excited about. Every Thermen Resorts location has physical hardware on-site. Modern data systems are housed in the cloud. Between these two worlds lies a gap that exists in many hospitality organizations but is rarely bridged. A great challenge for Cube. The Data Management Platform we developed for Thermen Resorts forms that bridge. It continuously synchronizes with the local servers at the resorts and links that data in a single central layer. From that point on, everything that happens online relies on the Data Management Platform.
What this means in practice: a guest searching for a time slot on the website sees real-time availability from the DMP, which in turn retrieves its data from the physical server rooms at the resorts. A marketing team launching a campaign works with the same data as the reservation system. A single source of truth: invisible to the guest, but for the organization, the engine driving everything that follows.
The DMP took over from the CMS. From that point on, the website functions as a presentation layer, not as a hub for business logic. Availability and capacity are managed centrally. New locations, integrations, or AI applications can be added without requiring a complete overhaul of the architecture. That is the business value: the platform grows with the organization, not the other way around.
Built on top of that foundation is an all-in-one booking configurator. Guests use it to fully customize their visit: admission, treatments, dining, packages, and lodging. Everything flows through a single, clear process. Upon opening, an animation appears that adds just that extra touch of tranquility to the moment. A smart capacity management system automatically blocks products and admissions as soon as maximum capacity is reached. No one can book a time slot that’s actually full. Small detail, big difference.
The interface increases the likelihood of a complete booking and provides opportunities for upselling at natural points in the customer journey: an extra treatment, a more comprehensive package, or staying an extra night. No hard-sell tactics, just an invitation to round out the visit as intended. For Thermen Resorts, this means more bookings, less pressure on the customer contact center, and guests who remain in control of their visit.
The Thermen Resorts websites have been rebuilt using flexible components. The editorial team can update content, expand sections, and reuse blocks without needing to involve a developer. Visually, the design became more serene and spacious, with a calmer color palette and typography that captures the feel of a physical visit. The process went so smoothly because the logic had already been extracted from the sites during the previous DMP project. The website could finally be a website, rather than a collection of data and rules.
Around the configurator, separate flows were developed in stages, each serving its own purpose. The package pages invite visitors to explore the possibilities. Category overview pages show what’s available, while detail pages provide a full description of each package and link to the configurator. The gift card flow provides visitors with a simple way to put together and order a gift without having to go through the entire booking process.
The "Careers" section demonstrates that employer branding doesn’t have to take a back seat to consumer branding: the same calm, the same style, with filters by department. None of these flows operate in isolation. They draw their data from the same DMP and are built on the same architecture. That’s what makes it manageable for the editorial team and consistent for the visitor.
The "My Thermen" platform was developed to engage with guests beyond the booking process. Guests can use it to manage their reservations, participate in the loyalty program, and view their rewards. The platform works as a mobile app as well as in the browser, and is also available as a drop-down menu within the websites themselves. Anyone in the middle of exploring a package can open My Thermen without leaving the page. All of this is built from a single codebase, which reduces maintenance and ensures a consistent experience.
Reservations, My Account, and gift cards for 6 wellness resorts and 3 wellness hotels. What this demonstrates above all is that high volume is handled seamlessly. Bookings, payments, and redemption moments that flow through a single platform without any dropouts. An operation where the online and physical sides work with the same data. An editorial team that does its job without a developer. A customer contact center that receives fewer questions about matters guests can handle themselves. A booking flow that delivers fully curated visits instead of separate pieces. And perhaps most importantly: a foundation upon which to build further without having to tear down what already exists.
The greatest compliment for this platform is something a guest will never say. Because they don’t even notice it. They select a time slot, receive instant confirmation, and open an app that recognizes their loyalty status. They experience no wait times, no duplicate entries, and no incorrect availability. Everything feels calm. And that is exactly what we’re proud of. The best technology fades into the background, allowing the experience to take center stage. For guests at Thermen Resorts, that experience lies in steaming baths and quiet sitting areas. For us, it lies in a platform that does its job without imposing itself. A single digital landscape, born from years of collaboration, that supports every second of what Thermen Resorts essentially sells: peace and quiet.
