Do you know that story of the a technical person who went on to do HBO-ICT?

Jasper never really knew what he wanted, but at some point, of course, you have to choose a direction. And so he did, at the age of 17. Just finished high school, so by necessity. With 0.0 technical knowledge, he had enrolled for HBO-ICT at Saxion. Ok. Not exactly obvious, to say the least. Why this choice? Jasper explains: 'I looked at the courses with the best job opportunities and -let's be perfectly honest- where you also earn a good living.' You're young and you want something, that avenue. So there he went. Somewhat atechnical and no clue about code language. Nada. PHP? Never heard of it. At the start, he asked the dumbest questions (in case you think there are no dumb questions: ask Jasper and you'll hear), but gradually he started to enjoy it more and more and master the subject matter.

"Ik had geen technische kennis, maar heb er alles aan gedaan om hierin te slagen. Nu ben ik heel blij dat ik met volle overtuiging heb doorgezet. Nooit stoppen op half gas!"

App development. More than 'interesting'.

The course became more specific and Jasper was once again faced with a moment of choice: courses in IT Service Management, Business or Software Development? He chose the latter two. A quarter later, he also had to choose between those two directions. Jasper: 'I always thought my qualities would lie with Business. But my interest turned out to be more on the side of making apps anyway, rather than the material that the management books offered me. In fact, I liked Apps Development so much that I started hobbying with it.'

Digital Agency seeks intern.

Jasper's specialisation in the first semester of the fourth year therefore became Advanced App Development. He worked a lot with the React Native framework. For his graduation, Jasper was looking for a cool club that could offer him many opportunities. Jasper: 'Via my work placement company in the third year, I ended up at Cube. Cube was growing considerably and would benefit from an intern like me and vice versa. My experience was a good fit and I got excited at the job interview, where I was allowed to come up with my own ideas for how to fill in my duties.'

"Deze baan geeft mij continu uitdaging. Ik bepaal mijn eigen leerdoelen en krijg hierin veel kansen aangereikt bij Cube."

Be curious and grow by doing.

Jasper immediately liked the young team, the informal atmosphere and down-to-earthness at Cube. He felt completely at home here. And still does. The beautiful office and nice working conditions also play a role, of course. I now mainly deal with app-related matters, but sometimes I also take on the back-end or front-end. That often fits in nicely with the line and that's how I continue to develop. Cube makes what I like even more fun because of the dynamic workplace, different projects, diverse clients and challenging hackathons that are organised.'

Widen that horizon!

Jasper also likes the openness about self-development. We often talk about where I see myself in five years and what the growth opportunities are within Cube. The company is open to this and it's great that this also comes from the employer. That is only encouraged here.'

Vision for the future.

What goals has he set himself? Jasper: 'I think it would be great fun to do something more with the human side of IT in the near future, sitting down with clients for example. I don't like limiting myself to one thing. Cube also has room for this.'

And whether you're an intern or already on the job market: that's why Cube is a great place to work if you ask Jasper. Not to mention the free mibos, cool team outings and fun parties. ;)
