How Mart grew from trainee to regular at Cube.

A search for the right place.

Mart started his studies as an ICT employee, where he dealt with hardware and network management. He soon realised that this did not suit him. After a year in the hospitality industry, he decided to take a new direction and studied Mediavormgever at the ROC in Enschede. Here he specialised in web and discovered his passion for front-end. During internships in Twente, he heard increasingly positive stories about Cube: an innovative organisation with cool projects and a strong reputation.

"I had heard a lot of good things about Cube from teachers and former students. It seemed like a super interesting organisation, with great clients and projects."

A flying start.

With that impression, Mart sent an open application and was invited for an interview. Although the click was there, he still lacked some knowledge. So he started a four-month traineeship, during which he could immediately start working on a real assignment.

"I had expected to have to learn mostly a lot of theory, but that was not the case at all. I immediately got a cool internal project under my belt. By doing, I learned an awful lot and soon felt at home."

His first assignment was to translate a design into a working front-end. That went smoothly, which then allowed him to delve more deeply into animation and frameworks like GSAP and Motion.dev. He also learned how to work with Spline for 3D modelling.

Applying yesterday's knowledge today.

Thanks to good documentation and onboarding processes, he quickly felt at home with the way Cube works. Still, it was a lot of information in the beginning: "I was overwhelmed by all the systems and tools for a while, but I soon found that I was able to master this knowledge more and more. Every day you learn something new and the knowledge you gained yesterday, you already apply today."

The guidance from Cube played a big role in this. Regular progress meetings and timely feedback helped him stay sharp. Not only on a technical level, but also in his soft skills. Planning and communicating with colleagues were skills he greatly improved.

Moving to a permanent job.

After four months of traineeship, the exciting moment arrived: Should he stay? Proudly, Mart was offered a contract and joined Team Pentagon. The transition to a permanent position was also well supervised, so he quickly found his place in the team.

Structure is important for his job satisfaction. "At Cube, I can plan my day well: I start early, work efficiently and keep an overview. Because of the working method here and my way of working, I don't feel any pressure, and when I'm done, I'm really done."

Pride of growth.

His ambition? To become a full-stack developer. He looks up to colleagues who are full-stack developers and wants to gain that broad experience himself. Fortunately, at Cube he gets plenty of room to grow with learning on the job opportunities such as hackathons and knowledge development afternoons. "I am especially proud of the growth I have experienced. I started with a blank stare and now I work on front-end projects where I can really make an impact."

With a culture where knowledge sharing, experimentation and collaboration are key, Mart was able to make great strides in a short time. And his growth is far from finished.
